The underwater hockey team wanted to make gifts for the departing seniors and grad students that are leaving. We had the idea to get glasses etched and I mentioned that I can do that at the Fab lab… so we just got some cheap pint glasses at Wal-Mart, made a design, and I took them in to etch them up.

They turned out nice and the people who got them were impressed.

Since I didn’t have any good photos of my own exploits I offer up some quality photos from the land down under.

I never did make a post about ACC (Atlantic Coast Championship) that was in Atlanta last month. It was a great tournament and a lot of fun in a slightly odd pool. (There is a foot tall ridge running across it. And Atlanta isn’t really near the cost in any way)
I never did take many pictures that weekend, but I can quote the tournament runners as to the outcome.

The tournament was an international success. We had 12 teams attending: Colombia team Aletos men Colombia team Aletos women Swordfish A (Georgia Tech) Swordfish B (Georgia Tech) University of Florida University of Illinois University of North Carolina George Mason University US women’s team Team Ramrod (a mix team of mainly US men’s elite players) Charleston Team Acuatoros (a mix team of Texas and Cornell University players) On Saturday we created 3 groups randomly mixed from the teams above. Each group contained 4 teams, which played a round robin. Top two teams moved to the A division, bottom two teams moved to the B division. Saturday afternoon we played a full round robin for A and B division. The ranking from the second round robin determined the playoffs on Sunday afternoon. Final rankings after playoffs: A Division 1) Aletos men 2) Team Ramrod 3) UF 4) Acuatoros 5) US Women 6) Aletos women B Division 1) University of Illinois 2) University of North Carolina 3) Swordfish A 4) George Mason University 5) Charleston 6) Swordfish B The final game of Aletos men vs Team Ramrod was especially exciting. After the two halves the score was 1:1, and we went to overtime (two 5  minute halves). In overtime team Aletos won against Team Ramrod. We wanted to thank again all the people that came and made this tournament happen and a success, also everybody for helping to keep a smooth schedule. Many Thanks, Nic, Andrei and Team Swordfish

The University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada has one of the best pool bottoms in North America. The large, smooth tiles allow the puck to move like lightning over the surface. It makes for a nice play style that I enjoy quite a lot. Little changes with the hand can make big moves happen with the puck.  This last weekend over St Patrick’s day they held their 32nd annual tournament.

Chicago’s team took 1st place in the A division.

Sault Ste Marie’s team, The Soo Tridents, took first in the B division

The video above was the only one I could find online just yet; coincidentally, one of my own games…. one I lost.  Thanks to Yohei Yamada for filming.

On Feb. 25 and 26 Michigan State University hosted their 12th annual “Tournament of Love”

I didn’t get photos up in a timely manner, but it did give them time to write their own article.
